The name “Kebbi” comes from its capital city, Birnin Kebbi, which is also the largest city in the state. Kebbi State officially became its state on August 27, 1991, when it was separated from Sokoto State.
Among all the states in Nigeria, Kebbi is the tenth largest in terms of land area and the 22nd most crowded, with an estimated population of about 4.4 million as of 2016.
Kebbi is located in a region known as the tropical West Sudanian savanna., and this region is characterized by its features, including the Sokoto River, which flows through Kebbi into the River Niger.
The River Niger then continues southward until it reaches the Kainji Lake, which interestingly, is split between Kebbi State and another area.
